Motion capability analysis of a quadruped robot as a parallel manipulator

Jingjun YU,Dengfeng LU,Zhongxiang ZHANG,Xu PEI

Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering 2014, Volume 9, Issue 4,   Pages 295-307 doi: 10.1007/s11465-014-0317-7

Abstract:

This paper presents the forward and inverse displacement analysis of a quadruped robot MANA as a parallel manipulator in quadruple stance phase, which is used to obtain the workspace and control the motion of the body. The robot MANA designed on the basis of the structure of quadruped mammal is able to not only walk and turn in the uneven terrain, but also accomplish various manipulating tasks as a parallel manipulator in quadruple stance phase. The latter will be the focus of this paper, however. For this purpose, the leg kinematics is primarily analyzed, which lays the foundation on the gait planning in terms of locomotion and body kinematics analysis as a parallel manipulator. When all four feet of the robot contact on the ground, by assuming there is no slipping at the feet, each contacting point is treated as a passive spherical joint and the kinematic model of parallel manipulator is established. The method for choosing six non-redundant actuated joints for the parallel manipulator from all twelve optional joints is elaborated. The inverse and forward displacement analysis of the parallel manipulator is carried out using the method of coordinate transformation. Finally, based on the inverse and forward kinematic model, two issues on obtaining the reachable workspace of parallel manipulator and planning the motion of the body are implemented and verified by ADAMS simulation.

Selective pseudosolubilization capability of

Fei HUA, Hongqi WANG

Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering 2013, Volume 7, Issue 4,   Pages 539-551 doi: 10.1007/s11783-013-0498-z

Abstract: Pseudosolubilized ability of sp. DG17 on -alkanes, role of biosurfactants in -octadecane uptake and trans-membrane transport mechanism of -octadecane were studied by analyzing amount of pseudosolubilized oil components in water phase, and the fraction of radiolabeled C -octadecane in the broth and cell pellet. GC-MS results showed that pseudosolubilized oil components were mainly C to C of -alkanes. In -octadecane broth, pseudosolubilized -octadecane could be accumulated as long as pseudosolubilized rate was faster than mineralization rate of substrate, and the maximum concentration of pseudosolubilized -octadecane achieved to 45.37 mg·L . All of these results showed that sp. DG17 mainly utilized alkanes by directly contacting with pseudosolubilized small oil droplets in the water phase. Analysis of C amount in cell pellet revealed that an energy-dependent system mainly controlled the trans-membrane transport of -octadecane.

A feasibility study of the measuring accuracy and capability of wireless sensor networks in tunnel monitoring

Xiaojun LI, Zhong JI, Hehua ZHU, Chen GU

Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering 2012, Volume 6, Issue 2,   Pages 111-120 doi: 10.1007/s11709-012-0150-1

Abstract: Fire disasters and the deterioration of tunnel structures are major concerns for tunnel operation and maintenance. Traditional wired monitoring systems have many drawbacks in terms of installation time, overall cost, and flexibility in tunnel environments. In recent years, there has been growing interest in the use of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) for the monitoring of various structural monitoring applications. This paper evaluated the feasibility of applying a WSN in the monitoring of tunnels. The monitoring requirements of tunnels under explosion and combustion fire scenarios are analyzed using numerical simulation, and the maximum possible distance for temperature sensors is derived. The displacement monitoring of tunnels using an inclinometer is investigated. It is recommended that the inclinometer should be installed in the 1/4 span of the tunnel structure. The maximum wireless transmission distances in both outdoor and tunnel environments were examined. The influences of surface materials and sensor node locations on the data transmission distance in tunnel environments were also investigated. The experimental results show that the data loss in tunnel environments is approximately three times that in outdoor environments. Surface material has a considerable influence on the transmission distance of radio signals. The distance is 25 ? 28 m for a raw concrete surface, 20 m for a brick surface, and 36 m for a terrazzo surface. The transmission distances along the middle of quarter points are approximately 0.9 ( is the transmission distance in the center of the tunnel), and the relative error is less than±3%. The transmission distances at different locations along the bottom exhibit significant differences, decreasing from the middle to the corner point, with distances of approximately 0.8 at the quarter points and minimum distances of approximately 0.55 at the corner points.

Physics model experimental research on the bearing capability of the middle tower caission foundation

Ruan Jing and Hu Feng

Strategic Study of CAE 2012, Volume 14, Issue 5,   Pages 57-61

Abstract:

The foundation of the middle pylon of Taizhou Bridge is located above the overlying deposit with the height of 200 m in the water. The round rectangular caisson foundation with the plane dimension of 58 m×44 m and the height of 76 m is employed. To verify the safety and stability of the middle pylon of Taizhou Bridge, a physics model with the scale of 1∶100 to the real structure is built up. The ultimate bearing capacity of the caisson foundation and the influence of sinking depth, soil moisture content, and the side wall friction on the bearing capacity are obtained.

Effect of illumination on the hydrogen-production capability of anaerobic activated sludge

Guochen ZHENG, Jianzheng LI, Feng ZHAO, Liguo ZHANG, Li WEI, Qiaoying BAN, Yongsheng ZHAO

Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering 2012, Volume 6, Issue 1,   Pages 125-130 doi: 10.1007/s11783-011-0384-5

Abstract: To investigate the influence of illumination on the fermentative hydrogen production system, the hydrogen production efficiencies of two kinds of anaerobic activated sludge (floc and granule) from an anaerobic baffled reactor were detected under visible light, dark and light-dark, respectively. The 10 mL floc sludge or granular sludge was respectively inoculated to 100 mL diluted molasses (chemical oxygen demand of 8000 mg·L ) in a 250 mL serum bottle, and cultured for 24 h at 37°C under different illumination conditions. The results showed that the floc was more sensitive to illumination than the granule. A hydrogen yield of 19.8 mL was obtained in the dark with a specific hydrogen production rate of 3.52 mol·kg MLVSS·d (floc), which was the highest among the three illumination conditions. Under dark condition, the hydrogen yield of floc sludge reached the highest with the specific hydrogen production rate of 3.52 mol·kg MLVSS·d , and under light-dark, light, the specific hydrogen production rate was 3.11 and 2.21 mol·kg MLVSS·d , respectively. The results demonstrated that the illumination may affect the dehydrogenase activity of sludge as well as the activity of hydrogen-producing acetogens and then impact hydrogen production capacity.
